Michelin PAX System
The MICHELIN PAX System is an integrated run-flat wheel and tyre system designed to maintain vehicle mobility after a sudden loss of tyre pressure. Unlike a conventional run-flat tyre that relies mainly on reinforced sidewalls, PAX uses a support ring inside the tyre.
The PAX System consists of 4 main components
Special PAX tyre – designed specifically for the PAX wheel.
PAX wheel – uses a special flat-base design.
Internal support ring – supports the vehicle when the tyre loses air.
TPMS – continuously monitors tyre pressure and alerts the driver to pressure loss.
Michelin also describes the system as incorporating a specially formulated gel, depending on the PAX configuration.
